What is Access Barnsley?

Access Barnsley provides scooter and wheelchair hire to enable people aged 18+ who are restricted by temporary or permanent disability to be able to access the shops and facilities of Barnsley Town Centre.

Along with scooter hire we have volunteers who can assist those who require help while shopping in the town centre. This could be escorting clients around town or helping them get to town on transport or collecting them from home and driving them into town (please note clients must meet a criteria for this service, staff will be happy to discuss).

We also have a small range of items that promote independent mobility which are available to purchase including RADAR Keys.

Prices

We have powered scooters and manual wheelchairs that can be hired Monday - Saturday (excluding Bank Holidays) for either half a day or a full day.

Full Day:
£5.50 per day
9:30am-4:00pm

Half Day:
£3.30 per half day
9:30am - 12:30pm or 1:00pm - 4:00pm

From 1st April 2023 there was a small increase in our hire prices. This was the first time that prices have increased in 8 years of running this service, to enable us to continue delivering an affordable Access Barnsley service on behalf of Barnsley residents.
