Description
We stand at the forefront of support for the Army family, last year supporting an estimated 75,000 people in 51 countries around the world. As one of the largest funders in the sector, we award grants to individuals and families, and fund leading organisations that support soldiers, former soldiers, and their families. When we hear of a person or family in need, we aim to respond within 48 hours.
Please check our Facebook page for updated news and events.
Based in Catterick Garrison, the home of the British Army in the North, we provide the ABF focal point for fundraising activity across the region. The local team of Barney Barnbrook, Amy Simeon and Jim Duffy, supported by our wonderful volunteers, and soldiers from our local Army units, run enjoyable and challenging events and activities throughout the year. Our annual ‘flagship’ events include the Yorkshire Big Curry Lunch (Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, York, June) and the Durham Cathedral Festival (Durham Cathedral, November). We also offer places each year to run for Team ABF in the Great North Run.
Our office at Hipswell Lodge (the former home of Lord Baden Powell) is easily accessible and we welcome visitors (preferably by appointment) – the kettle is (mostly) always on! Whilst we work pretty much all hours, you can generally find us in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Being only a small team, we are quite often out and about, so it may be worth calling ahead.
We are here to support and advise fundraisers across the North East and Yorkshire, in addition to running our own events. If you would like to support the British Army’s national charity, please do get in touch and we will be happy to discuss options with you.
