Description
The BALEAP (British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes) for Social Justice SIG (special interest group) warmly invites you to its next webinar:
Let’s Talk about Race in EAP, Practitioner Perspectives
Are you keen to join the dialogue about how race, racism and white privilege intersect with EAP? As part of our bid to put Black Lives Matter on the agenda in EAP circles (please click o read our BLM statement), this webinar aims to shine a spotlight on how race, racism and white privilege intersect with EAP. We will hear insights from two EAP practitioners with lived experience of this issue, focusing on the following areas:
- Diversity perspectives in EAP Henry James Robinson (EAP Tutor, University of Birmingham)
- What’s race got to do with EAP? Lorraine Mighty (EAP Programme Manager for Foundation Pathways at the BIA, University of Birmingham)
After these presentations, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion. We intend for this webinar to encourage learning, reflection and, ultimately, action, because, as Angela Davis says, 'In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist. We must be anti-racist'.
