City of Sanctuary is a national organisation of support groups throughout the UK making cities, towns, schools and organisations places of welcome and hospitality for people seeking safety from persecution and war.

Since the launch of the Barnsley Borough City of Sanctuary by the Church Poverty Action in 2015, Barnsley Borough City of Sanctuary worked in partnership with the Local Authority and voluntary and community groups to create a culture of welcome and inclusion for asylum seekers and refugees living in Barnsley.

We aim to create a culture of welcome; challenge myths; encourage participation; recognise talents and provide opportunities for people to be heard, appreciated and included.  Help Barnsley to be a safe and welcoming town by challenging negative attitudes, volunteering with groups that offer support and advice or help people to learn to speak English.

Barnsley City of Sanctuary have a regular newsletter of useful information about issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers, what support and social groups are available and a understanding Barnsley's very own language! You are able to use google translator on the right hand corner of the screen. يمكنك استخدام برنامج google translator في الزاوية اليمنى من الشاشة.
