Description
Penistone has a rich history of supporting refugees and displaced people, from Belgians in the First World War to Polish Jews in World War Two.
In 2017 a new group formed in Penistone to continue this tradition of supporting refugees and asylum seekers living in Barnsley. The group is supported by Penistone Churches Together and the Penistone Town Council.
Volunteers organise appeals for winter coats, children's clothes and toys, bedding and towels and donations of toiletries for hygiene packs for people who find themselves destitute.
Volunteers have also organised visits to Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Wigfield Farm and even a trip to Cleethorpes.
Come along and join our friendly group. For more details contact the Refugee Council.
