
Description
The Barnsley Volunteer Befriending Service links people living with mental health issues to local volunteers who can offer them support and companionship. This support can be provided for the short-term (3-6 months) or for longer term (up to 12 months). The befriending partnership between the service user and the volunteer explores goal-setting on issues like preventing social isolation, working on using public transport and increasing independence, volunteering and progressing into education or employment.
Services offered: - Befriending Networks - Community Support - Drop In - Individually tailored one to one support - Peer Support - Social inclusion - Social Networking - Support to access community resources - Volunteering - Weekly visits. You could help someone with their journey. If you think you would make a good befriender, and can commit 1 - 3 hours each week for a 6 - 12 monthy period, please get in touch to complete an application form. Full training is given and DBS checks are carried out free. We can offer work references that could help lead to future employment in your chosen field. Volunteers essential out of pocket expenses are also paid.
