The Darton Afternoon Club is a weekly social gathering of seniors from the Darton and Kexborough area and surrounds.
It meets every Monday afternoon from 1pm until 3pm in the former Darby and Joan Club building behind the Coop supermarket on Station Road Darton.
Members pay £1.50 on the door to include all refreshments and entertainments.
There is a weekly raffle for which members pay £1.00 and another raffle called Open the Box also costing £1.00.
The hall is well suited for this type of meeting, having a well equipped kitchen, circular tables with cloths and a roomy storage area.
Activities vary from week to week. The club has a committee who is responsible for booking guests and planning events. One club member books and organises visits, holiday stays and day trips for any member. These are costed personally.
Refreshments are served weekly and vary from a 'bring and share lunch" for each table, to a prepared buffet organised by the committee and bought from club funds. Several times each year the committee organises a hot meal brought in from outside caterers.
The club has grown a healthy bank account and delights in donating funds to local and national charities several times each year. The Treasurer keeps detailed accounts and reports to members regularly.
As well as guest speakers and entertainers the members also have quizzes and games organised 'in house' .
The feedback from members is always positive. New members are always welcomed and made to feel at home.
