Description

Help 4 Homeless Veterans charity is based in South Yorkshire.  We offer assistance to Veterans elsewhere but most of our resources are here in the North of England.

Our work in this part of the Country gained us a Royal award last year. Our primary focus is the support of former members of HM FORCES (VETERANS) facing homelessness.

We work with private landlords and some housing associations to help veterans when social housing isn’t available. We regularly put homeless veterans into B & B as a stop gap whilst helping find a longer term solution to their situations.

Barnsley Drop In Centre

We are providing free hot drinks and food at our Support hub on Wednesdays and Fridays 10am - 2pm and every second Saturday 10am to 1pm.  All Veterans welcome.

12 years after Tom Wood MBE and his wife Jean created Help 4 Homeless Veterans, their long-held aspirations to open a Veterans drop-in centre in their hometown of Barnsley came to fruition.

With the help of money bequeathed to the charity promised specifically to assist with the aim of creating this centre, and after a 2-year delay because of the pandemic, today it has finally opened with The Vice Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire Mr. John Holt DL cutting the ribbon.

Tom and volunteers will staff the shop at 11 Regent Street South just yards from the Interchange entrance 3 days a week initially to offer advice and practical assistance to veterans.

The charity’s rapid interventions assisting around 700 veterans, nearly 100 in the last 12 months alone has attracted Royal recognition with the award in 2020 of The Queens Award for Voluntary Service as well as a number of other community service awards along the way.

Veterans can ask for help either through calling in to the Drop-in shop, or by the web site www.help4homelessveterans.org

Therapy Farm

Help 4 Homeless Veterans, in conjunction with Jamie Quinn of Hall Farm Messingham supported by a grant from The VETERANS FOUNDATION, has started arranging day visits to the farm for fun and therapy. It is well known being with animals has a calming effect on most people so Jamie a former RAF Gunner who served in the RAF Regiment alongside our CEO Steve Bentham-Bates on 16 Sqn RAF Regt in West Germany and the Falklands got together and came up with this idea.

If you would like to have a free day out meet other veterans and enjoy being in the fresh air working with animals then email our CEO.
