Description
Sadly we all now know what is feels like to be stuck inside but for many older people that is going to remain the situation throughout the winter months. More now than ever, befriending our older neighbours has never been more important.
Can you pick up the phone, or in time be able to pop over to visit, someone nearby that otherwise may not have anyone to see or speak to. By becoming a befriender you can offer new companionship and support to an older neighbour.
Kathleen (83) in Thurnscoe said "Every time I see or speak to Nicola (befriender) it makes me feel I'm still part of the world. Like someone cares." Just an hour a week can completely change someone's life.
Opportunities are available every, day including weekends, at a time to suit.
To become a befriender they have a simple three-stage process.
- Complete a short online application form with your contact details and submit your online DBS background check - 15 mins
- Arrange a video call with their team, so they can verify your ID (Skype, WhatsApp, FaceTime) - 10 mins
- Join their online training and you are ready to befriend.
No qualifications required, but you will need to complete an Enhanced DBS background check and an online induction. If you would like any more information, please contact Jenny.
