Royal Voluntary Service, Looking Out for Older People in the Central Ward

Worsbrough, S70 4ND

Who we are

Helping older people stay active and independent.

The Royal Voluntary Service, Looking Out for Older People project is funded by the Central area of Barnsley Council and covers the Central, Dodworth, Kingstone, Stairfoot and Worsbrough Wards.

We aim to help anyone 50+ who needs support to stay active, independent and continue to contribute to society.

Do you find everyday things harder than they used to be? A little support from one of our volunteers could make all the difference and if it's helping you to stay healthy and independent, then that's just what we are here for.

What we do depends very much on your needs and wishes. Whether it's getting you to watch your local team, bringing you good meals, helping you recover after a spell in hospital or visiting friends, our volunteers would be pleased to help.

All our staff and volunteers are trained and DBS checked so you can be sure you are in safe hands. Our Inclusion Officers will visit and discuss how we can help. We aim to provide a bespoke service to help you achieve what you want to do, not what we think you need. Some of the ways we could help:

  • Supporting to find transport options
  • Support with health appointments
  • Dealing with correspondence
  • Dementia friendly support
  • Carers support
  • Signposting to other agencies
  • Peer support
  • Advocacy
  • Support to access local social groups and events
  • Home from hospital support
