Description
The Women's Institute is the largest non-party and non-sectarian women's organisation in Great Britain. We are interested in local, national and international public affairs. We are everywhere throughout the land, from our National Federation Office in London, through our County Federation Offices, into our local Institutes meeting in local Pubs, Village & Church Halls, in fact anywhere that will hold from 10 to over a 100 likeminded women.
We offer opportunities to make friends in a happy, social atmosphere; sharing educational courses to learn new skills for hobbies or business, with interesting speakers, outings and activities happening nationally, regionally and locally. The South Yorkshire Federation of Women's Institutes was formed in 1983 when the giant Yorkshire Federation was split into five areas.
There are 59 WIs in South Yorkshire ranging in size from 15 to over 100 members in villages, towns and cities throughout the area. Meetings are held monthly, some in the afternoon and others in the evening. We cover a fairly compact area from Harthill with Woodall on the Nottinghamshire border; New Swaine on the West Yorkshire border; Dunsville on the East Yorkshire border; High Levels on the North Lincolnshire border; and Dungworth Storrs on the edge of the Peak District. The main cities are Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.
