Description

A number of organisations in Barnsley are working together to offer a series of drop-in sessions over six months called 'Talking Point', allowing residents to speak face-to-face to a number of the community-based services available in Barnsley.

The 'Talking Point' trial will run from October 2019 to March 2020. The sessions will be piloted in the Dearne area and some of the initial dates are planned across the following locations:

  • Thursday 17 October, Goldthorpe Library, 10am -12pm
  • Saturday 26 October, Big Local Thurnscoe – St Helens Church Hall, 11am -4pm
  • Thursday 14 November, Snap Tin Café, Goldthorpe,10am -12pm
  • Monday 25 November, Salvation Army, Goldthorpe, 10am – 12pm
  • Monday 9 December, Thurnscoe Library, 10am – 12pm
  • Wednesday 18 December, Cherry Tree Court, 10am – 1pm
  • Monday 6 January, Goldthorpe Medical Centre, 10am – 12pm
  • Thursday 23 January, Goldthorpe Library, 10am – 12pm

The sessions will include support and guidance from Adult Social Care, BMBC Customer Services, Safer Neighbourhoods Service/South Yorkshire Police, community health service SWYPFT, Berneslai Homes, LiveWell Barnsley, My Best Life social prescribing and the Digital Champions.

Residents will be able to access a range of early help support promoting independence and wellbeing, as well as advice about concerns and increased awareness of what support is available in Barnsley.

Advisors from each service will be on hand throughout the sessions to discuss any queries residents have, as well as to offer solutions and guidance going forward.

Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Adults and Communities, and on behalf of the partner organisations involved, said: "This initiative is a brilliant way for residents to make sure that they can access the support and guidance that they require from a range of services working together in one place.

"The sessions will allow residents to talk to services and access information they need. I would encourage people to go along to the sessions relevant to them and discuss their needs.”
