TEAM VERRICHO - SUPPORTING YOUNG FAMILIES THROUGH CANCER

Team Verricho are here to help young families who are facing rare or hard to treat cancers fight and win tomorrows. We bring hope where there is none.

We can help in 3 ways:

Medical

We understand that cancer diagnosis is a terrifying thing. We have links with a range of top oncologists and surgeons who can review your treatment plan, advise on any clinical trials which may be available and discuss alternative treatment options. We have a particularly close relationship to the Harley Street clinics.

Typically, successful applicants receive a funded opinion and we cover reasonable travel expenses for you and a family member to attend.

Psychological

The trauma stemming from a cancer diagnosis should never be underestimated. Our Head of Counselling, Naomi Watkins explains what we do:

Counselling is a safe place for you to talk about whatever you want to, no matter how big or how small you think it is. It is a space where there is no judgement, with someone who can be objective and empathic.

Counselling helps you work through your feelings your thoughts and can help you to make sense of what’s happening for you and your family in the here and now. In a safe and confidential environment, your counsellor will help you to feel comfortable to talk about anything and everything.

Your counsellor is not there to tell you what to do or share personal experiences;  this is your time to focus on yourself. However, your counsellor can help you to look at options if that’s what you want, or your counsellor can listen and help you to be in the moment.

Here at Team Verrico we help people to access FREE counselling if their lives have been affected by cancer – patients, those struggling with a family members illness or those bereaved  – please let people know about us.

Generally people have an appointment with a qualified and experienced counsellor within 1-2 weeks of making contact with us, sometimes sooner.

Practical

Successful applicants may be helped with childcare,  transport costs to hospital or cleaning. We are not prescriptive as to the boundaries as to what can be offered.

Team Verrico’s criteria to access the service is that the application must be relevant to a case where a ‘parent’ has children under the age of 18. We do not discriminate on any ground as to the make up of the family unit; we appreciate that parentage can go beyond biological boundaries. Step parents and adoptive parents are very welcome to apply.
