Northern College, based in Wentworth Castle in Barnsley, is the only adult residential college in the North supporting adults to re-enter education to upskill, progress, gain employment or retrain for a new career. The ultimate goal is to transform lives through adult education. The college specialises in providing educational opportunities for all adults aged 19+ from across the South Yorkshire region.

Cost: you may be eligible to study free on many of our courses up to level 2. This includes if you are unemployed, on certain benefits, or earn £17,374.50 a year or less. For Level 3 courses, students under 24 may be eligible to study for free if you do not already have a level 3 qualification (eq to 2 A levels) Most students aged 24 and over covet the cost of higher level courses by applying for an Advanced Learner Loan. You may not need to pay the loan back if you take one of our Access to Higher Education programme and go on to complete your University degree afterwards.
