Description

At HOPE we provide free and unlimited support to people bereaved or affected by traumatic events such as road traffic collisions (RTCs), fires, drowning or through the witnessing of a traumatic event. HOPE support's children and adults of all ages, from all backgrounds.  HOPE is here for you and your family. We understand the specific needs of adults and children and we are here to support you at this time.  HOPE has round the clock support and we are only a text away.

For Children and Young People

At HOPE we support children and young people to remember their loved one and understand their emotions. Together we take time to remember the young person’s favourite memories with their loved one, in their own creative way.

We also work with specialists PTSD Counsellors, to be able to support a young person who may have developed PTSD through being part of the traumatic incident, or through witnessing the traumatic incident.

Sometimes children don’t always have words to express how they feel. We will find ways to support them to express their feelings and emotions with colours and child friendly bereavement language.

Peer Support Groups

HOPE hosts monthly peer support meetings where we come together to support each other. When you feel ready, you can share your experience with people who understand and who are going through something similar.  You can share fond memories of your loved one and talk about how you feel in a supportive environment with no judgement. We are here to support each other. Both adults and children are welcome to attend.

At whatever stage you are at we can support you. We move at your pace, when you are ready. We provide support across South Yorkshire in whatever way that you need. Our Barnsley meeting is held at Rosetree Community Centre in Cudworth.

We are an inclusive group, 'our loss is what brings us together.'

Empowering Communities - Road Safety

The casualty data shows that young people are at a high risk of being involved in a road traffic collision. This is due to a combination of youth and inexperience. This makes young people more likely to take risks but less able to spot hazards and know how to deal with them safely.

HOPE has recently received National Lottery grant funding to prioritise engagement specifically with young people aged 13 to 18 years old who are not in mainstream education.

This is important work for us, as this age group are becoming new road users and can be easily influenced by their peers. We have seen the devastating consequences of irresponsible driving and are working hard to prevent this.

We have developed a programme of activity which can be offered via pupil referral units, alternative educational provision and other out-of-school groups and projects for young people.

The one-hour sessions aim to influence attitudes and change behaviour towards safer road use, especially for those young people travelling by car.

There are several ways you can get in touch, telephone, email, post or by visiting our website.
