BMBC - SENSORY LOSS AWARENESS DAY

Barnsley Sensory Impairment Service, in partnership with Barnsley Council, South West Yorkshire Partnership Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, and a range of specialist organisations, is hosting a sensory loss awareness event in Barnsley Market.

The event aims to highlight the vital work of local and national organisations that support people living with hearing and sight loss. It will also help residents access the right services to maintain independence and improve quality of life.

Taking place in Barnsley Markets (Barnsley Town Centre) from 10am to 3pm, the event is open to everyone. Attendees will be able to explore information stalls, speak with professionals, and discover the wide range of support available for sensory impairment.

Organisations attending include Equipment, Adaptations & Sensory Impairment Service (hearing & vision), Sarabec, Adult Audiology, Central Call, Rebecca Walls (R Dash), Visually Impaired Peer Support Group, Low Vision Service, Edward Marcus, Fire Service, Hearing Products International, Barnsley Blind & Partially Sighted Association, Eye Clinic Liaison Officer, Berneslai Homes, and Sheffield Cochlear Implant Service and others.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Sensory Impairment Services said: “Over 2 million people in the UK have some form of visual impairment, and around 18 million experience hearing loss. This event is an important opportunity for people to learn what support is available. Knowing where to find help—locally and nationally—can make a significant difference in staying independent and preventing social isolation.”

“There will be plenty of stalls where people can access information and advice about managing sensory loss, maintaining remaining sight or hearing, and finding support if they are struggling. Everyone is welcome—whether attending for themselves or on behalf of someone they know.”
