Description
We are the only UK charity specifically focussed on the needs of children, young people and adults with severe learning disabilities whose behaviour may be described as challenging, and their families.
Challenging behaviour is often perceived as a ‘problem’ to be ‘treated’. The problem is seen as being part of the child or adult rather than focussing on what needs to change around the individual, such as their environment or how people support them.
We offer a range of resources offering support and information about challenging behaviour and connected issues. Visit our website to find out more about:
- Understanding challenging behaviour
- Finding the reasons behind challenging behaviour
- Positive behaviour support planning
- Person-centred support
- Early intervention
- Health
- Wellbeing of family
- Rights and Advocacy
- Cost of living support
- When things go wrong.
Family Support Service
The Family Support Service can provide information and support about the needs of the family member with a severe learning disability. Our support is confidential, and we won't judge you or tell you what to do and emails every weekday.
- You can call the Family Support Service on 0300 666 0126
- Or email us at support@thecbf.org.uk
We offer information about challenging behaviour to anyone who provides support to a child, young person or adult with a severe learning disability. We can also signpost you to other specialist organisations and sources of information.
Please note we are a small charity, with a small team. This could mean you are not able to get support straight away. We will support families with urgent concerns as a priority.
Family Carers' Email Network
The CBF Family Carers’ Email Network enables you to be in touch with a number of families around the UK. You can share experiences, information and receive support – without any obligation to reply or to identify yourself.
Being put in contact with other people who have been in your shoes has proved to be invaluable for many of the families who contact the Challenging Behaviour Foundation.
Please note that, the Challenging Behaviour Foundation’s Family Carers’ Email Network is specifically for family carers who have a loved one with severe learning disabilities. To download a list of other forums please click here.
