Due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic we are unable to meet face-to-face but we have continued to meet each week online. In September the group started the Rainbow Project, in which each week we explore the images, memories and feelings that we each associate with a specific colour. Often, they were tasked with photographing or filming themselves dancing, singing or sharing a story, using their mobile devices. These Zoom sessions have proven an invaluable lifeline to our company members throughout the lockdown and continue to do so through our tiered restrictions too.
Cross the Sky Theatre Company is a company of adults with learning disabilities and three artists who create new and innovative theatre performances and art work.
Our aim is to give the members of our company an opportunity to share their voice, thoughts and feelings in a public, mainstream arena. We celebrate and raise awareness of the creative talents of people with learning disabilities.
Using improvisational arts activities, the group work alongside three professional artists drawing on issues and themes that are relevant to the members. We support the members to develop their creative skills through:
- music, singing and song writing
- movement and dance - performance skills
- acting and performing
- film production and direction
- drawing and artwork
By joining our company, we hope to help people with learning disabilities develop confidence and self-esteem, helping with stress relief and management and unlocking creative potential to develop new skills, self-belief and being able to co-operate and work as part of a team. There is the opportunity to socialise, raise their aspirations and increase their personal motivation.
