FRIENDS OF MONK BRETTON PARK

All of our work is aimed at making the park an attractive area for local people and their families to enjoy, as well as ensuring the park also attracts and maintains the local wildlife.

Members help to maintain the park including planting, tidying, weeding, pruning etc, either as individuals or as a group. The group has been instrumental in making sure that there are swings and play equipment for small children in the park and benches for people to sit on and take in the views.

There is wheelchair access to the wildlife pond jetty by a concrete path.

We are entered into Barnsley in Bloom every year and have won several awards and we take pictures throughout the year for our Book of the Park. We also hold an annual Brass on the Grass event and sometimes hold other fund raising events. We welcome groups from local schools to help with planting and tidying activities and we would be happy to join up with other groups that would like to use the park for their events, i.e. Carol Singing, Summer Concerts, even Outdoor Tai Chi.

We welcome new members and volunteers to help us with our ongoing work. We have admin and organising roles, help with fundraising and grant applications, designing posters and leaflets, making and selling homemade produce. We would also like to develop a web and Facebook page so whatever your skills are, you are welcome to come along and join in.

We hold business meetings in Monk Bretton Methodist Church when needed.
