LETS B FRIEND - B:FRIEND SOCIAL GROUPS

We are a charity who are working to reduce social isolation and loneliness in older people .

We deliver 1:1 befriending and weekly social club activity to older people across Barnsley. We match isolated older people with a volunteer befriender in their area. The volunteer commits to visiting their neighbour every week for a cuppa and a natter, providing community connection and friendship.

Befriending is available to anyone aged 65+ and living alone and without a diagnosis which requires any specialist support. We accept referrals from professional bodies, family members, friends etc. Or the person can self refer. Referrals can be made via the secure portal on our website.

Our befriending is free of charge and not time limited.

Our weekly social clubs are held in the Dearne. 

Monday's at 10am until 12noon at the Rainbow Centre on Houghton Rd in Thurnscoe. (Regular physical exercise)

Wednesday's at 10am until 12noon at St Andrews Square Community Centre in St Andrew’s Square in Bolton upon Dearne. 

No two weeks are the same. We have a range of activities including guest speakers, active sessions such as dancing, yoga etc, art and crafts, original sessions designed by the team and more!

All older adults are welcome to join us for a cuppa and biscuit and see what we’re up to - you might even win the quiz! There is no need to book a place, just pop along. 

If anyone would like to volunteer with b:friend please visit our website and complete an application form. Our volunteering is open to anyone aged 18+ who has an hour a week to spare. We do require all volunteers to complete a DBS application which the charity provides.
