Soft and gentle movements combined with a set breathing pattern that helps you experience a feeling of relaxation and inner peace. It is good for balance, co-ordination, flexibility, for relieving stress and it is fun!!
Course aim
Progress learners in a supportive and nurturing manner in order to encourage and stimulate stamina, improve flexibility, breathing, to manage stress in a natural and non-intrusive way.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
No skills or experience needed. This course is suitable for beginners and improvers and is for anyone wanting to improve focus, balance, flexibility and mobility. It is good for relieving and managing stress and anxiety together a general feeling of well being.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Run through warm-up exercises including opening/closing, various stances/footwork and breathing techniques
- Execute previous learnt Tai Chi patterns including Greeting the Early Mist. Stepping into the Dawn, Crane Makes Ready, 5 Petal Blossoms with better fluidity and improved posture. Continue and complete Yang 8 Step
- Introduce Yang 24 Step and Ba Duan Yin
- Create a relaxed body and a calm, focused mind by cultivating the mind in stillness and the body in motion using Tai Chi principles and relaxation
- Follow the safety guidelines as laid down by the tutor How will I be taught?
The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning. You will be encouraged to practise what you have learnt in class
What kind of feedback can I expect?
A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion. You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor. You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
What else do I need to know?
Nothing else is needed. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and pump-like shoes and bring an open mind.
