Barnsley Hospice is a charity which provides specialist compassionate care to hundreds of local people every year from all over Barnsley. Specialist palliative care provides help and support to people with active and progressive life-limiting illnesses such as Cancer, Heart Disease or Parkinson’s.

This care strives to improve quality of life for patients and their families by providing pain and symptom relief, spiritual and social support; and counselling and bereavement services. We have an expert multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals who make sure your care is safe, effective and relevant to you.

A Hospice is not just a building – it is a way of caring for people. With our support, patients are able to benefit from the best possible care throughout their illness and at the end of their life. Our expert individual care is free for patients and their families but not free to provide. We gratefully receive a grant from the NHS each year, but have to raise additional funding to stay open. Barnsley Hospice relies heavily on public and company donations, legacies, grants, community and eight charity shops. Barnsley Hospice has over 300 volunteers who contribute nearly 60,000 hours a year to the Hospice.

Community sessions

Barnsley Hospice are holding a weekly session in Worsbrough and Ardsley to help support people with a life-limiting illness who are struggling to access the Hospice.

For adults living with a progressive life-limiting illness to gain support, advice and education and socialise with others in similar situations. Each week will involve a different activity ranging from social chat, crafts, relaxation and practical self-care.

Attendees must be aged 18 years or over, live within the catchment area and be registered with a Barnsley GP, but can be joined by carers, family and friends.
