Description

Between April 2019 and June 2021 Barnsley saw on average 567 domestic abuse incidents reported monthly to police, this equates to 132 individuals affected by domestic abuse every week!

The Washing Line Project aims to visually showcase often overlooked domestic abuse statistics. Each t-shirt, adorned with motivational quotes and personal stories, is crafted by survivors, service providers, or members of the community.

The project serves to heighten awareness about the profound effects of violence and abuse, honouring survivors' resilience and offering them a platform to bravely speak out against the silence surrounding their experiences.

Help us welcome The Washing Line Project, our unique art installation sparking more conversations about domestic abuse, back to the town centre at our Making Spirits Bright event.

This festive event, filled with Christmas crafts and cheer, will bring together Barnsley’s domestic abuse support services, helping you learn more about local support.
Whether you want to create mini wreaths with IDAS, make ornaments with BSARCS, build your perfect hot chocolate with Cranstoun or try your hand at GROW’s festive crafts, come down and speak to their teams.
