Mencap are a passionate group of people committed to developing work and training skills for everyone with a learning disability.
So What is Positive Futures? Our main focus is to assist any individual with a learning disability progress their personal confidence, motivation and skills to assist them in gaining sustainable employment/volunteering or further education. Over a 22 week period each individual will receive support in their own personal goals while enhancing their skills to communicate in a team environment.
Areas covered on the course:
Community Impact Project:
- Learners complete a community impact project that may be an area they value as a group or a cause that could benefit the local community.
Employability Skills:
This will be the key factor to their personal progression.
- Through tailored support they will learn the importance of a good CV, letter writing, application forms and interview techniques.
- This will also enhance each individual's functional skills in English, Maths and ICT.
Supported Work Placement:
Through carefully selected employers, each learner will complete a placement over a four week period, a minimum of four hours per week. This will help them gain confidence in a workplace environment and learn the correct ethos towards sustainable employment.
Money Management:
- Through various sessions and external providers , we will provide knowledge of money management and awareness of financial importance.
Fund Raising Event:

This can be incorporated with their community impact project.
