SWYT - QUIT -TOBACCO TREATMENT SERVICE

QUIT is a tobacco treatment service based in Barnsley. They support patients with severe mental illness.

Inpatients at the Oakwell Centre, Kendray Hospital 

This service is for community mental health patients in Barnsley (under a Psychiatrist) with SWYT staff based at Kendray Hospital Inpatients:

The Quit Team can support you during your inpatient stay and provide you with NRT to help manage nicotine cravings. They can also support you to reduce your smoking or quit smoking altogether. Support lasts for your whole inpatient stay and for up to 12 months after being discharged to help you stay smoke free for good.

Wendy's Story

Wendy was an inpatient at the Oakwell Centre. She had tried quitting before but never managed to stick with whilst managing her mental health symptoms. With support from the Quit Team she's now been quit for 8 months. Here is a bit of her story here:

"I’ve been quit for over 4 months now and I feel so much healthier. My oxygen sats have gone up to 98% or more now. I also love the fact that I don’t smell of cigarettes anymore! Sharon and Steve from the QUIT team have been brilliant at supporting me. I couldn’t have stopped smoking without their support and encouragement so I’m really grateful for all their help. When I tried to quit smoking in the past I’d used the products but never had the support before and I think that’s why I never stuck with it. I built up such a good relationship with Steve and Sharon that I wanted them to come to all my care review meetings for support. They also came to visit my new property with me which I’m hoping to move into once discharged later this week. They’re going to visit me weekly at home for ongoing support and they’ll arrange vouchers for my inhalator at my nearest chemist too. I’m looking forward to my grandkids coming to visit and I’m going to

Community Patients

If you are under a community mental health team in Barnsley, (under a Psychiatrist), we can support you to cut down or quit smoking. We can come and visit you at home, supply NRT and support you for up to 12 months. Even if it takes you 6 months to gradually cut down and quit, that's what we're here for!

Supporting Staff

We are also available to support SWYT staff based at the Kendray Hospital site to quit smoking. We can supply you with NRT which is free of charge and available to collect on site at Kendray. We will support you for up to 12 weeks.
