The opportunity to learn key skills and role of a Peer Mentor. Our course will give you a Level 2 (equivalent to a GCSE grade A-C) award in Peer Mentoring. The course fee also includes four nights accommodation, evening meal and breakfast and accreditation fees. You will be expected to take notes and keep a journal of your learning so it is important that you feel confident about your literacy skills. If you have no prior qualifications you are required to complete a literacy assessment before starting the course.
If you have concerns, please contact our student support services prior to the start date and we can assess your support needs. In order to gain the qualification you must attend all 8 sessions. In exceptional circumstances we may be able to make an exception after discussion with the Tutors.
The course includes: Induction and Introduction to college and course requirements
Session 1 Mentoring - Key principles of peer mentoring
Session 2 Mentoring Skills – communication in a mentoring environment
Session 3 Mentoring Skills – developing and maintaining relationships, boundaries, contracting, legal provisions and referrals
Session 4 Mentoring practice - recording, process and contract agreement
Session 5 Group and Teamwork Communication Skills – identify different team roles, sharing information and constructive feedback
Session 6 Group and Teamwork Communication Skills – communicating/co-operating in a team environment
Session 7 Mentoring Practice – action planning and practice
Session 8 Mentoring Practice – reflection and practice, review and personal assessment.
