Description

This very popular group originated with four friends playing their ukuleles in each others homes, but this soon snowballed and we now have a membership of 30 plus. We play and sing a variety of songs ranging from old wartime songs to rock ‘n’ roll.

We regularly get requests to entertain at Old People’s Centres and WI groups etc where we encourage the audience to ‘Sing Along With The Stringalongs’ using the song sheets provided. The ukulele is very easy to play and has taken over from recorders in a lot of Junior Schools as it has the advantage of being able to play and sing at the same time. You can buy your first ukulele for around £20.

You do not have to be able to read music as we play using chords from diagrams. Most of the group has learned to play from scratch and they keep on learning all the time. If you are a complete beginner it is advisable to have a few preliminary tuition sessions before joining the big group.

A short course for beginners can only be offered when there are at least 6 people interested. After a couple of lessons you will be able to play a simple tune and you will see why it is so much fun to play the ukulele.

Come along and see for yourself. For further details please contact the coordinators.
